Well that was a busy month!
After a busy run of live appearances we settled back into the studio to do some work on our full 90 minute set and finishing off the next album. Most of the songs are written and we are now at the stage of polishing vocals and starting work on the final mixes. We hope to release a single before Christmas with an accompanying vid - details to follow! The 90 minute set will be a mix of originals and the kind of crowd pleasers that inspired our own music. Expect to hear plenty from the Stones, the Kinks and the Who with some classics you forgot you loved from Dusty Springfield, The Turtles and even the Buzzcocks, (Rob reckons they are power pop...).
That was the plan, but we had an unexpected opportunity to return to HMV in Wigan to support National Album Day that we couldn't pass on. Its always great fun to play HMV and reach a new audience and the Saturday afternoon shoppers seemed to enjoy the entertainment. Our second broken string on the run led to a quick set re-shuffle and a vow never to turn up without a spare guitar again! there are still a couple of copies of our album Sunburn for sale in store if anyone fancies a solid slice of powerpop joy!
No sooner had we loaded the gear out of the van than we heard that we had a slot supporting the fantastic County Pilots at the legendary Ferret in Preston. I've been a paying member of the audience to watch some superb acts at the venue and my excitement at playing that stage was matched only by my nerves! What a fantastic night it was. Massive credit to the resident sound guy who gave us the best live sound we have had yet. It was such a joy to be actually hear ourselves properly through the monitors. We ran through almost all of the Sunburn album with a preview of "Mary" from the next album, and this time no broken strings, accidentally unplugged cables or other disasters - and yeah - we took TWO spare guitars just in case!
Check out the vids page for a short showreel of the gig. We had an awesome time and would sell an elderly relative for another chance to play the Ferret again!
